Audomelia “Aura” Robinson
Aura was born in the Province of Darien, in the City of Yaviza. Her folkloric path started when she became an elementary school teacher for Panama’s public
school system in the province of Bocas del Toro, and Cocle.
There, she had the opportunity to attend several folkloric events where she discovers her love for the Panamanian Folklore.
After her marriage in Panama with Mr. Richard
Robinson, she relocates to the United States to Fort Bliss-Oklahoma where she attended her
first multicultural event. After seeing the presentations of other cultural groups,
Aura became determined to form her own group to announce to the world the Beauty of the Panamanian Folklore. The first group was called Panamanian Folkloric Group of Oklahoma, which was active
from 1979 to 1983.
Aura and her family later relocate to Newport News, Virginia and anxiously,
she began searching for the Panamanian community. She was able to locate a few
Panamanians, and started a second folkloric group in September 1993. It was then,
when the name Panamanian Folkloric Group of Hampton Roads, Virginia “Nuestra Herencia Panameņa”
started its trajectory as one of the premier cultural entertainers in the Hampton Roads area.
Thanks to Aura and her quest to preserve her beautiful culture, Hampton Roads has been
delighted throughout the years with spectacular performance provided by Aura Robinson’s talented folkloric group.
